Marcus Dodd wins Rallye Sunseeker 2010

Poole-based rally driver Marcus Dodd took the title at the 2010 Rallye Sunseeker last weekend. It is the seventh time he has won the event, which was scaled down this year but still attracted an impressive crowd. He was full of praise for his co-driver Andrew Bargery as the Hyundai Accent WRC team took the title seconds ahead of Andrew Burton and Robin Kellard in their Peugeot Cosworth.

The event was smaller than in previous years, the usual night stage that begins the event in Bournemouth town centre being replaced by a parade at Poole Quay followed by a ceremonial start at the Civic Centre. It ended on Saturday evening in Bournemouth Town Centre. Awards were presented at Bournemouth’s Marriott Hotel on Sunday night.

Rallye Sunseeker 2010 takes place over 10 stages through the dirt tracks and forests around Ringwood and Wareham. In a report in the Bournemouth Echo, race director Rick Smith made a plea for Bournemouth Council to bring back its grant towards the night stage. He hopes that the Friday night stage can be reinstated next year, which is the Rallye Sunseeker’s 25th anniversary.
