Mirrorless Cameras are an evolution of the DSLR with its choice of lenses and a 'Through The Lens' way of viewing, focussing and metering the image.
However, the bulky optical viewing system, essential in a traditional SLR using 35mm film and continued in Digital SLR cameras, has been replaced with a high-resolution electronic viewfinder to create a smaller, lighter and probably better camera.
