Primera Sports & The Steve Bernard Foundation Sportive 2011

With just a couple of days to go before the big event we’re getting ready to do our part for this great local charity.

Our plan is to be located along both the 50mile and 100mile routes snapping the riders as they push up through the Purbecks on this beautiful circle ride. The views are guaranteed to be stunning, as indeed are some of the faces on the climbs. Luke and James (me) cycled the route for the 2011 Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride, and I don’t mind telling you that parts of that really hurt. I can’t wait to be on the other side of the camera for this one, especially as we’ll be locating ourselves on some of the tougher areas of the stage.

Following the success we had raising money for Macmillan by donating our photographic expertise and prints from the event it’s a huge pleasure to be working with Primera again, and even more so for the chance to help out the Steve Bernard Foundation. These guys really know how to work. Earlier this year a group completed the Lands End – John O’Groats cycle, yes, that’s the length of the country, followed by the 3 Peaks challenge.

The Steve Bernard Foundation Ltd was formed following the tragic passing of the affectionately named Stevie in November 2005. The foundation aims to mirror Stevie’s desire to bring sporting happiness to those around him and has distributed money between various sporting projects such as the PE departments of Bournemouth School and St Marks Junior School and AFC Bournemouth Ability Counts.

In the …aftermath of Steve’s untimely passing, his family and friends were overwhelmed by the generosity of those who had overtime come to know and love Steve. The sheer volume of help offered was massive and it seemed right even in the earliest stages that any funds raised in Steve’s honour should be put to that which he loved best, sport.

Since it’s formation in February 06 the foundation has raised over £50,000 for our local sporting projects, many of whom would not have been able to compete without our funding.

If you haven’t already signed up for the event then click through to the Primera Sports page. At just £25 entry it would be a shame to miss it. A great days riding is  guaranteed with a lot going on at the Start/Finish line throughout the day. After the event the photos will be uploaded to Facebook where riders can tag themselves and request prints through us. We look forward to seeing everyone at the event and wish all taking part the very best of luck!
