Canon Camera Store Week: A Day at the Hawk Conservancy with Oliver Wright
As part of our Canon Camera Store Week celebrations for 2025, we were delighted to welcome customers to a special event at the Hawk Conservancy Trust in Andover. The day brought together stunning wildlife, expert guidance from Canon and professional photographer, Oliver Wright, and plenty of opportunities to put cameras and lenses to the test in a truly unique setting.
A Unique Location
The Hawk Conservancy, with its beautiful grounds and world-class bird of prey displays, provided the perfect backdrop for the event. From owls gliding silently through the woodland to eagles soaring above the arena, there was no shortage of subjects to capture. The dramatic lighting conditions and fast-moving birds provided participants with the opportunity to test their equipment and skills to the limit. If you have never visited, it is an absolute must.
Learning Through Experience
The day was led by Canon professional photographer, Oliver Wright. His inspiring introductory talk was filled with incredible images of birds he has captured through his lens over the years. His great advice and guidance throughout the helped guests to refine their wildlife photography techniques. Whether it was tips on exposure and shutter speed or advice on lens choice, everyone left with fresh knowledge to apply to their own photography.
Canon Expertise on Hand
Canon’s technical team joined us for the day, offering demonstrations, advice, and the chance to try out the latest equipment. Many guests took the opportunity to put the Canon EOS R system cameras through their paces, exploring features like advanced autofocus and rapid burst shooting—perfect for tracking birds in flight. There was also a selection of Canon’s famous white long L-series lenses available for everyone to use and enjoy, which allowed some customers to try out their dream lens!
A Community of Enthusiasts
Perhaps the most rewarding part of the day was seeing our customers connect with each other. From beginners to seasoned photographers, the event brought together people who share a passion for both photography and wildlife. The atmosphere was friendly, supportive, and full of excitement every time a bird swept into view.
Looking Ahead
The Hawk Conservancy event was a wonderful way to celebrate Canon Camera Store Week and to thank our customers for their continued support. We look forward to hosting more opportunities like this, where our community can learn, be inspired, and capture unforgettable moments.
