Advanced lens design

As well as optimised lens coatings, a 3-layer combined lens helps to reduce ghosting by reducing the surfaces in contact with the air as much as possible.

Designed to perform in extremes

The exterior is coated in the same white heat shield coating as used on the RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM and RF 70-200mm lens to prevent deterioration in performance in high temperatures.

Seamless integration with RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM

A mechanism which limits the zooming of the RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM zoom range (300 to 500 mm) prevents the lens elements hitting those of the extender.

"Attached to the RF 100-400 lens works well for subjects such as insects near by ( close focusing to less than a metre) but not so good for birds in flight as there is a reduced focusing area. The two stops of light was not a problem and being a lot lighter than the equivalent 200 800 lens much easier to carry around."

"The RF 2x Extender has given me excellent results using my Canon EOS R6 with the RF 100-500 mm zoom lens. For example, in dull late afternoon light I was able to get good, crisp, images of Roe Deer at a range of 100 metres with settings of 1/1600 F14 @ 1000mm ISO 6400"
