Zeiss Conquest Apia 24-60x85 Angled Spotting Scope

The Zeiss Conquest Apia 24-60x85 Spotting Scope (Angled) is designed to balance the resolving potential and low-light capability of an 85mm spotting scope with a construction intended to remain practical for outdoor observation. Its optical and mechanical systems have been developed together to reduce unnecessary size and weight while retaining durability and comfortable handling.

The angled viewing configuration is particularly suited to tripod-mounted observation, allowing the scope to be positioned comfortably when watching birds, wildlife and distant subjects for extended periods.

24-60x zoom for detection and identification

The 2.5x zoom range provides 24x magnification at the wide end for scanning and locating subjects before increasing to 60x when finer identifying details need to be examined at greater distances. This gives observers flexibility without requiring a separate eyepiece for different magnifications.

The eyepiece has been designed around an immersive viewing experience throughout the zoom range, with a subjective viewing angle of 54° to 71°. The 85mm objective provides a 3.5mm exit pupil at 24x and 1.4mm at 60x.

ZEISS HD optics with up to 87% light transmission

A carefully balanced ZEISS HD optical system supports bright, detailed observation, including in more challenging light. The angled Conquest Apia achieves up to 87% light transmission, while selected glass types and Extra-Low-Dispersion glass help control chromatic aberration.

ZEISS T* multi-coating is applied to optimise brightness, while the roof prisms feature multi-layer coatings and phase correction to improve clarity and resolution.

Sharp detail across the field of view

FieldFlattener Technology is used to maintain high resolution across the field rather than concentrating sharpness only towards the centre. This helps retain detail when observing subjects away from the optical axis and creates a more consistent view when scanning wider scenes.

The optical construction also uses aspheric lens elements, allowing ZEISS to reduce distances between elements and contribute to a shorter, more compact optical system.

Designed for comfortable long observation sessions

The eyepiece has been developed to provide an immersive view while reducing the tunnel-like effect that can make prolonged observation less comfortable. Suitable eye relief and the adjustable eyecup help the observer find an appropriate viewing position and see the available field clearly.

An extendable sunshade provides additional control when observing in bright conditions and can help shield the objective lens from unwanted light.

Fast and precise focusing

The focus wheel moves from close focus to infinity in approximately 1.2 turns, combining rapid adjustment with the control needed for fine focusing. Its position ahead of the tripod foot keeps it readily accessible when the scope is mounted.

Large, raised focus and zoom controls provide a secure grip and are designed to remain easy to operate without looking directly at them, including when wearing gloves.

Quick zoom adjustment with the included throw lever

A removable throw lever assists with rapid zoom adjustment. On the angled model, its positioning allows the zoom to be changed with one hand without having to move fingers away from the focus control, helping reduce unnecessary movement while following a subject.

The lever can be configured for right or left-handed operation and is included with the spotting scope.

Arca-Swiss compatible tripod mounting

The angled 85mm model uses a fixed Arca-Swiss compatible tripod base, providing a straightforward connection to compatible tripod heads without requiring a separate mounting plate.

The base and focus controls have been positioned to maintain sufficient working space between the tripod head and focus wheel, supporting comfortable adjustment while the scope is mounted.

Compact construction built for outdoor use

The Conquest Apia has been engineered for reduced size and weight from the outset, using components including aluminium and magnesium alongside a slim tripod foot. Protective rubber armouring adds grip while helping protect the body during regular outdoor use.

The construction is designed to be waterproof, fogproof, shockproof, temperature-resistant, and resistant to UV light, making it suitable for changing conditions encountered during birding and observation.

ZEISS LotuTec coating

The external lens surface features the hydrophobic ZEISS LotuTec coating. Water is designed to bead and run off the surface quickly, while dirt and fingerprints adhere less readily, helping make the optic easier to keep clean during outdoor use.
