Photographers get chance to steam ahead in Swanage

Photograph steam trains this weekend at Swanage Railway.

Steam train enthusiasts have a fantastic opportunity to go behind the scenes on a local railway this weekend. There will be a plethora of chances for railway photographers to get amazing pictures during a tour of Swanage Railway’s re-laid Purbeck Line.

This event is ideal for the all-round railway lover. Not only will you get the chance to see, and photograph, what life is like behind the scenes of a working steam railway, you’ll also get to meet the staff and volunteers who keep the railway running.

Visit Swanage Railway’s Herston Engineering Works and catch the progress of restoration work on the Battle of Britain class Bulleid Pacific Sir Keith Park, a truly impressive locomotive.

There’s also the opportunity to find out how a signal box works, take brake van rides (if you’re a member of Swanage Railway – and you can become a member instantly on the day), learn how carriages are restored and visit the loco shed. So there’s something for all the family, along with great photo opportunities.

On Sunday, the special Wessex Belle steam service leaves Swanage at 1.10pm for a Mother’s Day extravaganza. There’s a chance to enjoy a delicious meal while you travel through the Purbeck countryside, with the opportunity to snap some fantastic shots of Corfe Castle, along with some local wildlife in between Swanage and Norden – look out for pheasants, deer, and buzzards. There’s a chance to photograph the steam train when you return to Swanage station.

For all your sports photography and photographic equipment needs, don’t forget to visit Castle Cameras!
