Canon announce new EOS 1D X

Canon UK have this morning announced the new flagship Canon EOS 1D X.

Available for pre-order at just £100.00!

Canon EOS 1D X

Placing itself firmly at the top of Canon’s DSLR range the new EOS 1D x takes over from both the EOS 1Ds Mk III and the more recent EOS 1D Mk IV. Canon have made possibly the most complete DSLR package ever seen, boasting a mind-boggling specification. Canon have branded the 1D ‘X’ as the tenth generation of the EOS professional range, not because they’ve taken a page from the ‘Apple school of marketing’.

Canon EOS-1D X – key features

·        18.1 MP full frame CMOS sensor
·        Up to 12fps and 14fps shooting
·        100-51200 ISO, up to H:204800
·        61 point AF system
·        100,000 pixel RGB AE metering with DIGIC 4
·        Full HD 1080p EOS movie
·        Dual “DIGIC 5+” processors
·        Clear View II 8.11 cm (3.2”) 1,040k LCD
·        Ethernet port

Among the most exciting of these features are the DUAL Digic 5+ processors, each one being at least 3x faster than any previous iteration, that allow the camera to cope with the 12fps RAW shooting, which requires a fully charged battery. The gigabit Ethernet port will allow studio photographers shooting tethered new transfer possibilities, including the camera acting as an FTP server. The autofocus system has been completely redesigned and now uses it’s own Digic 4 processor just for the job.

The EOS 1D X will share the same high resolution screen as the EOS 1D Mk IV and the same heavy duty body but with a new control layout, including an iPod styled rear control dial for silent operation when shooting video. Perhaps the most attention grabbing, hence left til last, headline is the ISO rating. 512,000 expandable to 240,800 sounds incomprehensible but with two of the fastest processors ever seen in a camera working side by side Canon are confident that the 1D X will be able to handle noise better than anything we’ve seen before.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed but expected £5299.00, set for release March 2012. More detail will be added as it becomes available.
